IPL 2026 schedule: BCCI opts for phased release of schedule due to election clash
The schedule of IPL 2026 has been partially published, and the fans will have to wait more to have the full list of fixtures. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially announced that the schedule of this year will be published in phases, mainly because of the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections that will take place in various states.
Why is the complete IPL 2026 Schedule Delayed?
The delay is not random but strategic. It is anticipated that the Election Commission of India will soon announce the polling dates of states like Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Given that elections require massive security, the BCCI is making the IPL fixtures to suit the elections to prevent any logistical conflicts.
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla affirmed that the remaining IPL 2026 schedule would be announced once election dates are decided, probably within 5-6 days of the announcement.
First Phase Overview
The initial phase of the IPL 2026 includes the period between March 28 and April 12 during which 20 matches will be held across 10 venues.
